Trove Privacy Policy
Effective Date:
Alt Terra LLC ("Alt Terra," "we," "us," or "our") makes the Trove mobile application ("App"). This policy explains what information Trove collects, how it is used, who else may receive it, and the choices you have.
1. Information You Enter
- Inventory details, such as item names, descriptions, brands, colors, prices, stores, dates, and notes.
- Personal details you choose to add, such as your name, your address, or the names of people you lend items to.
- Photos, receipts, documents, and 3D scans you capture or add.
- How you organize your items, such as collections, rooms and places, tags, wishlists, and reminders.
This information is stored on your device. Photos, receipts, documents, and 3D scans may also be stored in your iCloud account, depending on your iCloud settings. On paid plans, the rest of your Trove data, such as item details, also syncs through iCloud.
Trove is designed to remove location data and other hidden details, such as camera information, from the photos it saves. Files you attach as documents, such as PDFs or images from the Files app, are kept as you added them, including any details stored inside them.
2. Information Collected Automatically
The App connects to our servers regularly, for example when it opens, to confirm your plan and load settings, whether or not you use AI features. When it does, our servers and our hosting provider receive:
- An ID the App creates from your iCloud account, shown in the App's settings as your Trove ID. It is generally the same on every device signed in to that iCloud account, and after you reinstall the App. We use it to manage your subscription and access to features, apply usage limits, and detect and prevent abuse.
- Security information that confirms requests come from a genuine copy of the App.
- Basic connection information, like your IP address, which may be logged for a limited time to operate and protect the service, except as part of the record of your agreement described below.
Our servers keep that ID and the security information, along with information connected to it. This includes, but may not be limited to:
- Your plan and the subscription details Apple sends us, such as Apple's reference numbers for your purchases and whether a subscription has renewed, is in a free trial, was refunded, changed plans, or is used from another iCloud account.
- How much you use AI features, in the current period and over time.
- How the service is used and how well it works, such as which features were used, whether requests succeeded, and when the App first and last connected.
- When a request is blocked by automatic safety checks, and any limit this places on your access.
- A record of your agreement to our Terms of Service and this policy: the version you accepted, when you accepted it, when we received the record, and the IP address it was sent from.
If you choose to share analytics with app developers through Apple, Apple may send us crash and performance reports.
3. How Your Information Is Used
We use this information to:
- Provide the App's features, including AI features.
- Sync your data across your devices through iCloud, depending on your plan.
- Verify your subscription and apply its usage limits.
- Understand how the service is working and fix problems.
- Respond to feedback and support requests.
- Keep a record of your agreement to our Terms of Service and this policy.
- Help keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
4. Service Providers and Other Parties
4.1 Google (Gemini) — AI processing
Some AI features (Trove AI) are processed by Google's Gemini AI rather than on your device. Depending on the feature, this can include item details you have entered, such as names, brands, colors, the collection an item is in, descriptions, and notes; photos you choose to scan, analyze, or restyle; and the text of receipts you scan. We take steps to remove payment card numbers from receipt text before it is sent. Receipts can contain other personal details, and anything visible in a photo you submit, such as people or documents, is sent with it. You are responsible for what you include.
Before the App first sends your data to an AI provider, it asks for your consent. One consent covers all of these features, and the App asks again if what it sends changes. Some optional AI features, such as automatic image generation and smart reminder suggestions, run automatically once you turn them on, and may send details of items already in your Trove as well as items you add or change. You can turn them off in the App's settings.
We take reasonable steps to minimize the data sent to third parties to process your requests. Requests reach Google from our service, not from your device, and our service is designed to hold their contents just long enough to return the result. If what you include identifies you, such as a name, an address, or a face in a photo, Google may be able to connect the request to you.
Google handles this data under its Gemini API Terms of Service (https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms) and Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). As of this policy's date, Google's terms for the paid service we use say that Google does not use this data to improve its products, and that it keeps it for a limited time to detect and prevent misuse and to meet legal requirements.
AI features that run on your device are designed not to send your data to us or to Google; any processing by Apple is governed by Apple's own privacy terms.
4.2 Cloudflare — hosting and network
Our service runs on Cloudflare, which hosts our servers, stores the information described in Section 2, and passes AI requests on to Google. Cloudflare handles this information for us, including IP addresses and the contents of requests as they pass through, under its Data Processing Addendum (https://www.cloudflare.com/cloudflare-customer-dpa/) and Privacy Policy (https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/).
4.3 Apple
Trove is built on Apple services, including iCloud for storage and sync, the App Store for purchases, and features built into iOS, each governed by Apple's own privacy terms. Payments are processed by Apple, and Apple tells us when your subscription starts, renews, changes, or is refunded.
4.4 Product links
When you add a product link, the App visits that page from your device to fill in details such as the title, price, and image. The website sees that visit as it would any browser visit, including your IP address. When you open Amazon links from the App, the App may add our affiliate code, which lets us earn a commission on qualifying purchases, as described in our Terms of Service. Websites you visit from the App, including product pages and our providers' sites, have their own privacy practices.
5. Storage and Security
We rely on the security features of iOS and iCloud, and use encrypted connections to our service, to help protect your data. You can choose to require your device passcode or Face ID to open Trove. Backups and reports you export are ordinary files that anyone with a copy can open, so store them somewhere safe. No method of storing or sending data is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of your data. You are responsible for securing your device and your Apple Account.
6. Feedback and Support
Reports you send from the App go as an email from your own email account. A report can include what you are reporting, such as an AI result, and you can review it before sending. When you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include. If you include your Trove ID, we can connect your email to the information described in Section 2. Please avoid including sensitive personal information.
7. Retention and Deletion
- Your Trove data is kept on your device and, depending on your plan and iCloud settings, in your iCloud account. Our servers are designed to handle it just while processing AI requests, including automatic ones you have turned on.
- Items you delete one at a time go to Recently Deleted, where you can restore them for a limited time, currently about 90 days, before they are deleted from the App. You can delete them sooner. Some actions, such as deleting all data, delete right away.
- We keep the information described in Section 2 for as long as we need it to provide the service, manage subscriptions, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations. Some of it is removed automatically after a period. Records of your agreement to our Terms of Service and this policy are kept as evidence of that agreement.
- You can remove the App's data from iCloud in your device's iCloud settings. How and when Apple removes data from its servers is governed by Apple's terms.
8. Your Rights and Choices
- You can view, manage, and delete your data in the App. Some tools, such as exporting a backup or a report, depend on your plan.
- Cloud AI features are optional. You can choose not to use them, and you can turn off automatic ones in the App's settings (see Section 4.1).
- We do not sell your personal information, use it for targeted advertising, or use advertising identifiers to track you.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights under your state's law, such as to access, correct, or delete personal information. To make a request, contact support@altterra.app. We may need to verify a request before acting on it, and may be unable to act on a request we cannot verify.
- We may disclose information in response to a valid legal request, such as a subpoena or court order, or as otherwise required by law, and may use the information we hold to investigate fraud, abuse, or other illegal activity.
If a data breach affects personal information, we will notify affected users and authorities as required by applicable law, using the means available to us, such as a notice in the App or on our website.
9. Children
Trove is intended for adults aged 18 and older, as described in our Terms of Service. If you believe someone under 18 is using Trove, contact support@altterra.app.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make important changes, we will update the date at the top and ask you to review and accept the updated policy in the App.
